The Lighthouse Glasgow

June 11, 2011

The Lighthouse in Glasgow was opened in July 1999, by HM Queen Elizabeth, after a £13 million conversion, which transformed Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s derelict 1895 Glasgow Herald newspaper office into Scotland’s first, dedicated, national centre for architecture and design. The Mackintosh Interpretation Centre incorporates technology, original objects and a fascinating timeline plotting Mackintosh’s contribution to architecture and design. The Mackintosh Tower with its helical staircase, provides magnificent views across the city of Glasgow

The Lighthouse is one of the only centres in the world that is equally dedicated to architecture and design.

The Lighthouse Vision: “To be a leading body for the promotion of architecture, design and the creative industries, locally, nationally and internationally by engaging people of all ages through a creative exhibition, education and business programme.”

Facilities include : Gift Shop, Changing Exhibitions, Guided Tours

What our guests say

“First visit to Glasgow”

We have just returned from a 3 night 4 day break at the Argyll. We can not praise this hotel enough. On entering we were greeted by very friendly reception staff. Our room a double was very clean and tidy. The breakfast was wonderful and a member of staff Linda couldn’t do enough. We could order the eggs we wanted and nothing was to much trouble. We would definitely recommend this hotel.
