Kelvingrove Park is located directly across the road from the Argyll Hotel in the Kelvingrove area of the west end of Glasgow. Kelvingrove Park was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton ans is a classic example of a Victorian Park.
The Park is located north of the River Clyde, on the banks of the River Kelvin where it enhances the many magnificent buildings which surround it, including Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and Glasgow University.
The park is open at all times and facilities within Kelvingrove Park includes a Park Ranger Information Centre, five bowling greens which is seasonal facility, croquet green, four synthetic tennis courts, children’s play area, orienteering course, herbaceous borders, Azalea and Rhododendron borders, outstanding riverside walks and a skateboard park.
Kelvingrove Park which is 85 acres in size, holds a number of events and in June 2009 it played host to the Glasgow west end festival which was held in Byres Road in previous years.
Other events which take place within the Park include various Countryside Ranger Services including Wild in the City Days, The Glasgow School of Art and School of Design Annual Soap Box Race is held in the park
In 1852 the City of Glasgow purchased land forming Kelvingrove and Woodlands Estates to create an area which is now known as Kelvingrove Park. The park was the first purpose designed and constructed park in Scotland and it is one of the city’s best loved historic parks.
The largest monument is the Stewart Memorial Fountain, built to commemorate Lord Provost Robert Stewart (1851-1854) and his achievement of providing the city with fresh water from Loch Katrine.

Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 : Lawn Bowls : Kelvingrove Bowls Complex
Grass bowls enthusiasts from all around the commonwealth will descend on Kelvingrove Park in the heart of the west end of Glasgow during the Commonwealth Games 2014.
Located adjacent to the Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena, Kelvingrove Bowls Complex will host the lawn bowls competition. The five bowling greens where competitors will play are in the shadow of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The bowls complex is with minutes walk of the Argyll Hotel Glasgow.
