Trades Hall Glasgow : “Let Glasgow Flourish” Awards
Designed and built from 1791-1794 by Robert Adam and his brothers, the Trades Hall was built to serve as a public hall and meeting place for the city’s Trades House & 14 Incorporated Crafts. Situated in the Merchant City in the heart of Glasgow, the Trades Hall is one of the most important historic buildings in Glasgow.
Today, the Trades House still meets in the building, which apart from the mediaeval cathedral is the only building in Glasgow still used for its original purpose.
“Let Glasgow Flourish Awards”
Awards are given to businesses and institutions in Glasgow for green and flowering horticultural displays in public view during the summer season. The displays are monitored by a teams of judges during the summer and Awards are presented at the Trades Hall the following Spring, usually the last Thursday of April.
Judging for the annual “Let Glasgow Flourish” Awards 2008 took place during the Summer months. The Awards were presented in the Trades Hall on Thursday 30th April 2009 to businesses and institutions in Glasgow for their green and flowering horticultural displays in public view during the Summer season of 2008. The Argyll Hotel received a High Commendation Plaque.
There are three categories of Awards:-

A Certificate is awarded for the first year – plaques for subsequent years
The Robertson Silver Spade
Presented to a business or organisation which in the judges’ opinion has reached an exceptionally high standard over a number of seasons. The Spade is retained by the Winner for display on their premises for one year.
The Argyll Hotel has won the Robertson Silver Spade for it outstanding floral displays in 2000 and 2002
